  1. Sterilization in situ (SIP) Able to sterilize the fermenter vessel, piping for inputs like air/gas, stirrer shaft etc., without disassembly. This ensures aseptic conditions. Scigenics lists "lab scale in situ sterilizable stirred tank fermenters" in its product range.
  2. Controlled temperature Heating and cooling systems (jacketed or coil) to maintain culture temperature precisely. Likely with +/- tolerances (±0.1-0.5°C) for sensitive cultures.
  3. Agitation / mixing A stirrer (top‑driven shaft, possibly bottom‑driven or magnetically sealed depending on model) to maintain homogeneity, ensure oxygen transfer, suspend cells if needed.
  4. Automated control & software A controller (could be PLC or dedicated bioreactor controller) for setting setpoints, alarms, logging
  5. Cleanability and aseptic design Features for CIP (Cleaning In Place) and sterilization: smooth surfaces, minimal “dead volumes”, properly sealed seals, ports for cleaning, possibly splash plates, etc.
